chat with a math or science tutor
If you're like most ECC students, you are a very busy person. You probably have a job (maybe more than one). It can be hard to get help from the Learning Center when you're always on the go. That's why the Learning Center has partnered with the Library to provide a new chat service for students. During online business hours, you can ask a quick question via chat from anywhere. To access the Math and Science Chat, you can visit the Learning Center's web page and click the "chat with a math tutor" button. Alternately, the chat may be found HERE, on our Math Online Tutoring page. We look forward to chatting with you!

We can tutor that!by Jon Noelker
East Central College students have utilized the Learning Center for many purposes throughout the years. What students may not know is that the Learning Center has specialists who can tutor a wide variety of subjects over a number of different disciplines. Here are some of those areas: Statistics: Rheann Spier, Denise Walker, Jon Noelker, and Raphael Maurice can assist you with questions about Statistics and Probability. Chemistry and Biology: If you have questions from these classes, tutors like Kathy Wright, Rheann Spier, Kaylyn McKee, and Jon Noelker can help you. Our new student tutor, Morgan Holdmeyer, can tutor in all levels of ECC Chemistry, including Organic Chemistry. Human Anatomy & Physiology Rheann Spier, Jon Noelker, and Katie Gaus can also assist you with Human Anatomy & Physiology. Upper Level Mathematics There are a number of tutors, like Denise Walker, Morgan Holdmeyer, Kathy Wright, Tony Terry, and Lauran Spier, who can help students with Pre-Calculus and/or College Algebra. Some specialists may even be able to help you with Calculus questions. Geology & Physical Science Kathy Wright and Jon Noelker can assist you with any questions you may have concerning these courses. Medical Terminology Denise Walker and Katie Gaus can help with Medical Terminology. The diversity of assistance that is available to East Central College students is impressive. So, if you find yourself in need of help in any of these classes, stop by the Learning Center and make an appointment with one of the tutors. You could also set up an appointment over the phone by calling the Learning Center (636-584-6688). Also, don't forget about the Chat service that is now available to all East Central students. Located on the Learning Center home page, our Chat service allows you to ask a quick question about Mathematics or Science questions during regular business hours. |
New biology resources!by Rheann Spier
Are you currently taking a Biology course? Do you wish you had access to science models at home when you really need to study?
If so, you're in luck! We have added links to awesome new biology resources to our "resources" web page! Interactive models of the human body, cellular respiration, photosynthesis, and cells can be found through the presented links. Tools for studying difficult topics like conversion and scientific notation have also been updated. More resources will be added as the semester progresses, so keep your eyes peeled! Interactive Human Anatomy Model: biodigital HumanOne of our new links sends you to Biodigital human, a 3D interactive model that is extremely helpful in learning the body and the functions of various organs. After creating an account, students can choose many models outside of the premium account.
The muscular system is used as an example. The model can be zoomed and rotated with just the mouse, and the “select” button allows a student to select different body parts. The function of the selected organ can be seen after clicking “read more.” If the organ of interest is deeper in the body, sections can be removed using the “hide” button, and this can be undone using the “undo” button. If a student wishes to highlight and label certain areas, they can go to “edit in studio,” where they can paint different areas as they wish and label those areas. This labeled model can then be saved to the student’s computer and even published to the biodigital community as a resource for others. In the editing studio, there is the option to add multiple chapters or body systems, where the student can add other models, edit them, and save them as needed. Some models are even videos, where the student can observe a function in action. |
